Diamond Grading Report

A DIAMOND GRADING REPORT IS JUST A COMPRENHENSIVE DESCRIPTION OF THE DIAMOND.

I think it is important for customers to remember that the purpose of a diamond Grading Report (or certificate) is to identify the gem and describe it in detail.

However, many dealers and Gem Laboratories have misused that term to imply that this kind of document is a Certificate, a seal of approval or guarantee of quality. The term they have used: "Certificate" or "Cert" as they are nicknamed imply the aceptance of an absolute confirmation of the grades represented.

G.I.A., at the back of each diamond Grading Report they issue, there is the statement which define the role of the report for consumers. It says: "THIS REPORT IS NOT A GUARANTEE, VALUATION OR APPRAISAL, and GIA Gem Trade Laboratory has made no representation or warranty regarding this Report, the diamond described herein or any inscription thereon. This report contains only the characteristics of the diamond described herein after it has been graded, tested, examined and analyzed..."

Therefore, the color and clarity are the OPINION of the lab at that time. The results may differ based on when or who grades the diamond. This is why the same diamond can go to the same lab and receive different grades. Diamond grading is NOT an exact science and this kind of reports represents only the best professional OPINION of the company issuing the report.
